IAF Chief AP Singh Engages in High-Level Strategic Dialogue with US Air Force Counterpart
In a significant move to bolster bilateral defence relations, Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh conducted a series of high-level engagements with his United States counterpart, General Ken Wilsbach, in Washington. The talks, held on April 8, 2026, at the Pentagon, aimed at deepening defence cooperation and enhancing interoperability between the two air forces.
Full Honours Arrival and Pentagon Meetings
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh was accorded a full honours arrival ceremony at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, marking the commencement of his official visit. Following this, he proceeded to the Pentagon for crucial meetings with Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink and General Ken Wilsbach. These discussions were part of a broader effort to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and the United States.
Focus on Modernisation and Indo-Pacific Security
General Wilsbach expressed honour in hosting Air Chief Marshal Singh, emphasising the importance of the counterpart visit. "Throughout his day at the Pentagon, we had great discussions focused on modernisation efforts, future training opportunities and our shared commitment to a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific," Wilsbach stated, as reported by PTI.
Senior leaders from the Department of the Air Force highlighted the critical role of the US-India defence partnership in ensuring regional stability. They underscored its centrality in promoting a free, open, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, reflecting mutual strategic interests.
Praise for India's Multilateral Engagement and Defence Procurement
Wilsbach commended India's leadership and active participation in multilateral military exercises, noting that expanding such cooperation is key to enhancing regional deterrence. He also welcomed India's procurement of the MQ-9B Sky Guardian aircraft, reaffirming the US Air Force's commitment to ensuring the Indian Armed Forces can effectively operate this advanced platform upon delivery.
Furthermore, Wilsbach pointed out the benefits of defence industrial collaboration in supporting the Indian Air Force's modernisation initiatives. "Opportunities like this are crucial for building our joint interoperability and strengthening the strategic partnership between our air forces," Air Chief Marshal Singh remarked in a US Air Force statement.
Extensive Visit to Key US Military Bases
As part of his comprehensive itinerary, Air Chief Marshal Singh travelled to Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado. There, he received detailed briefings on the binational North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) mission, which includes:
- Aerospace warning systems
- Aerospace control mechanisms
- Maritime warning capabilities for North America
Subsequently, he visited Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, where he attended briefings at the US Air Force Warfare Centre. A highlight of this visit was a familiarisation flight in an F-15EX Eagle II, providing firsthand experience with advanced US aircraft technology.
Concluding Staff Talks on Key Programmes
The visit culminated with staff talks covering a range of critical topics, including:
- The National Guard Bureau's State Partnership Programme
- The Air National Guard's Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Centre
- Full-spectrum MQ-9 operations
These discussions aimed to explore avenues for enhanced collaboration and training exchanges, further solidifying the defence ties between the two nations.
