Complete Drone and Aerial Activity Ban in Lahaul-Spiti Ahead of Presidential Visit
In a significant security move, the Lahaul-Spiti district administration in Himachal Pradesh has imposed a comprehensive ban on drones and all forms of aerial activity along the Sissu-Atal Tunnel stretch. This decision comes ahead of President Droupadi Murmu's scheduled six-day visit to the state, which begins on April 27.
Strict No-Fly Zone Established for 12 Days
According to official orders issued by Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana, the area encompassing Sissu village, Sissu Nursery, Sissu helipad, and extending up to the north portal of the Atal Tunnel has been declared a "no unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) zone" from April 19 to April 30. This 12-day prohibition is designed to ensure maximum security during the presidential visit.
Officials have clarified that the ban extends beyond just drones. It includes remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS), paragliding, and any other airborne activities that could pose security risks. The administration has issued a stern warning of strict legal action against anyone found violating these orders.
Tourism and Adventure Operations Temporarily Suspended
In addition to the aerial restrictions, the district administration has taken the unprecedented step of suspending all tourism and adventure operations within this designated security zone during the same period. This temporary suspension affects several popular activities that typically attract visitors to the region.
- Zip-lining operations have been halted
- Boating activities have been temporarily banned
- Operators and vendors have been directed to vacate their sites by April 20
The comprehensive nature of these restrictions reflects the administration's commitment to ensuring a secure environment for the President's visit. While these measures may inconvenience tourists and local businesses, officials emphasize they are necessary precautions given the high-profile nature of the visit.
President Droupadi Murmu's six-day tour of Himachal Pradesh is scheduled to begin on April 27, with the security preparations now in full swing. The Lahaul-Spiti district, known for its breathtaking landscapes and the engineering marvel that is the Atal Tunnel, will be under heightened security surveillance during this period.
