Delhi Metro's New Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park Section Nears Operational Readiness
New Delhi: The 9.9-kilometer Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park section, a crucial part of the upcoming Janakpuri West to R K Ashram Marg corridor, is now almost ready for operations. This fully elevated stretch, which serves as an extension of the Magenta Line, will feature five intermediate stations: Pitampura, Prashant Vihar, North Pitampura, Haiderpur Badli Mor, and Bhalswa.
Enhanced Connectivity and Traffic Relief
An official from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) highlighted the corridor's strategic importance. "This corridor will provide vital connectivity between the western and northern parts of Delhi," the official stated. "By shifting a substantial number of commuters from private vehicles and buses to the metro, the 8-kilometer-long Deepali Chowk-Bhalswa stretch along Outer Ring Road is expected to significantly ease congestion at major choke points, including Pitampura and Haiderpur Badli Mor/GT Karnal bypass."
The section includes three key interchange stations, connecting the Red Line at Pitampura, the Yellow Line at Haiderpur Badli Mor, and the Pink Line at Majlis Park, thereby enhancing the metro network's integration.
Advanced Technological and Accessibility Features
The corridor is equipped with state-of-the-art systems, including a communication-based train control (CBTC) signalling system and unattended train operation capability. Energy-efficient technologies have been incorporated, such as LED lighting and regenerative braking in rolling stock, aligning with sustainable urban transport goals.
Special emphasis has been placed on inclusivity, with tactile pathways, wheelchair-designated spaces in trains, and station designs tailored for persons with disabilities and senior citizens. All stations in this section are outfitted with lifts, escalators, automatic fare collection gates, and platform screen doors, ensuring a safe, seamless, and modern passenger experience.
Broader Phase IV Expansion Context
The entire Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor, part of Delhi Metro's Phase IV expansion, spans 29.3 kilometers and includes 22 stations. A 2-kilometer section from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension was inaugurated on January 5 last year. "The rest of the stretch is expected to open in phases during 2026-2027," the DMRC official confirmed.
Phase IV encompasses six new corridors with a total length of 112.4 kilometers and 94 new stations. Among these, the 12.3-kilometer Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor, an extension of the Pink Line, is also ready for operations. The Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor, known as the Golden Line, is currently under construction.
Work on the Saket G Block-Lajpat Nagar corridor, the fourth and smallest corridor which extends the new Golden Line, commenced on December 8 last year. The two remaining corridors—Inderlok to Indraprastha (extension of the Green Line) and Rithala-Narela-Kundli (extension of the Red Line)—are scheduled to begin construction this year.
In a recent development, the Union Cabinet approved three additional corridors as part of the metro's Phase V(A) expansion: R K Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj, and Aerocity to Terminal 1, further expanding Delhi's metro network to meet growing urban mobility demands.
