Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Uttarakhand on April 14, 2026, to officially inaugurate the highly anticipated Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. This major infrastructure project represents a significant push to enhance regional connectivity and boost economic activity in the northern state.
Expressway Details and Travel Benefits
The 210-kilometer-long expressway is designed to strengthen the link between Uttarakhand and the national capital, New Delhi. Key features include:
- Reduced Travel Time: The journey between Delhi and Dehradun is expected to drop to just over two hours, offering a much faster and more convenient road alternative compared to current routes.
- Infrastructure Highlights: The expressway will be equipped with five toll plazas and is projected to alleviate traffic congestion while improving overall travel efficiency for commuters and freight.
PM Modi's Itinerary and Temple Visit
Before the formal inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Modi will offer prayers at the historic Dat Kali Temple, a revered religious site in the region. Shubham Goswami, son of Mahant Raman Prasad Goswami, confirmed the plans, stating, "PM has an event here on the 14th. He will have a darshan at Ma Dat Kali... PM will have the darshan for 5-10 minutes."
Authorities have made elaborate preparations at the temple premises, including floral decorations sourced from Vrindavan and West Bengal, underscoring the significance of the visit.
High-Profile Attendance and Char Dham Yatra Preparations
The inauguration event is expected to be attended by senior political leaders, including Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, highlighting its importance.
In a related development, a high-level review meeting was conducted to assess readiness for the upcoming Char Dham Yatra, which begins on April 23. Chief Minister Dhami emphasized that all preparations are complete, saying, "All preparations for the Char Dham Yatra have been completed. Continuous review of it is ongoing... Every department is making proper preparations for the tasks that need to be done. We will welcome all devotees coming to the Char Dham."
Authorities are ensuring comprehensive facilities for pilgrims, including arrangements for accommodation, drinking water, sanitation, electricity, and parking, to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage experience.
