Dehradun Airport Overhauls Parking System with Passenger-Friendly Reforms
In a significant move to enhance commuter convenience, the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is poised to implement a comprehensive, technology-driven parking system under a revised policy by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). This initiative aims to streamline operations and improve the overall travel experience for passengers.
Key Changes in the New Parking Policy
A major relief for travelers is the elimination of excess-time fees previously levied on vehicles overstaying in parking zones. Officials state this decision will reduce confusion and inconvenience, addressing a common pain point for airport users. BCH Negi, director of the airport, emphasized that the new rules are designed to simplify parking, alleviate congestion, and elevate passenger satisfaction.
Commercial vehicles also benefit substantially from the updated policy. Non-AAI licensed operators, who were earlier charged Rs 345 for lane pickups, will now pay a nominal fee of Rs 80. This reduction makes short-duration pickups significantly more affordable, potentially easing operational costs for transport services.
Infrastructure and Technological Enhancements
To further decongest entry points, toll booths will be relocated outside parking areas, eliminating the need for entry tokens. This strategic shift is expected to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks during peak hours.
The airport will undergo a technological upgrade with the introduction of an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system and other digital tools. These innovations are set to streamline parking management, enhance transparency, and boost operational efficiency. AAI plans to float a tender within a month for a fully automated parking management system, which could become operational within six months, marking a leap toward modernized airport infrastructure.
