In a proud moment for Chandigarh and the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Senior Under Officer (SUO) Manya Bahl represented India at a significant youth exchange programme in the neighbouring kingdom of Bhutan. The week-long event, held from December 12 to 19, fostered stronger ties between the youth of the two nations through a blend of cultural immersion and leadership activities.
A Journey of Diplomacy and Discovery
The Indian delegation, comprising NCC cadets, commenced its journey in the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu. Upon arrival, the cadets attended crucial briefings at the Indian Embassy, setting the stage for the engagements to follow. The programme was designed as a mutual exchange, featuring active participation from NCC contingents from both India and Bhutan, with a core focus on three pillars: cultural exchange, leadership development, and youth engagement.
Adventure, Culture, and Forging Bonds
The itinerary for the cadets was packed with experiences aimed at building character and understanding. They enthusiastically participated in various adventure and outdoor activities, which included challenging sessions of trekking and river rafting. These activities were not just tests of physical endurance but also lessons in teamwork and resilience.
Beyond the adrenaline, the exchange provided a deep dive into Bhutan's rich heritage. The Indian cadets spent meaningful time interacting with their Bhutanese youth counterparts. These interactions were a vital channel for gaining first-hand exposure to the local culture, traditions, and way of life, thereby strengthening people-to-people connections.
A Grand Finale with High-Level Recognition
The memorable week concluded on a high note with a formal dinner hosted in honour of the visiting delegation. The event was graced by none other than Bhutan's Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, along with several senior government officials of the Himalayan nation. This grand finale underscored the importance both countries place on nurturing their future leaders and the deep-rooted friendship between India and Bhutan.
For SUO Manya Bahl, a student of MCM DAV College for Women in Chandigarh, this experience marks a distinguished chapter in her NCC journey. Her participation highlights the opportunities the NCC provides for young Indians to act as cultural ambassadors on international platforms, building diplomacy and understanding through youth engagement.
