Bangladesh Mulls Scaling Back Delhi Embassy Amid Tensions; TMC MLA Launches New Party
Bangladesh may scale back Delhi embassy staff amid tensions

In a significant diplomatic development, Bangladesh has indicated it might reduce the number of staff at its embassy in New Delhi. This comes amid a period of steadily worsening relations between the two neighbouring nations. The statement was made by the interim government's foreign affairs adviser, Touhid Hossain, on Sunday.

Diplomatic Strains and Domestic Political Shifts

Adviser Touhid Hossain stated that Dhaka would "consider scaling back its presence" in India's capital if the current downward trend in bilateral ties continues. The situation deteriorated further following the death of anti-India youth leader Osman Hadi, who succumbed to injuries from an assassination attempt.

On the domestic political front in India, a new party has emerged in West Bengal. Humayun Kabir, a suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA and former IPS officer, officially launched the Janata Unnayan Party on Monday. His suspension from the TMC came after he laid the foundation stone for a Babri-style mosque in Murshidabad district.

Addressing a public meeting in Beldanga, Kabir announced his party's intention to contest the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections. In response, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly hit back at her former colleague.

International Incident and Heartwarming Gesture

On the international stage, a senior Russian military officer was killed in a targeted attack. Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, 56, who headed the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff, died when an explosive device detonated under his car in Moscow's Yasenevo district on Monday morning. Russian authorities have alleged that the assassination was orchestrated by Ukraine.

In a lighter note from the world of sports, Indian women's cricket team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana won widespread praise on social media. She sent a heartfelt message to a young Kashmiri fan after filmmaker Kabir Khan shared that the girl from Aru Valley named Mandhana as her favourite cricketer.

Chilling Crime in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh witnessed a horrifying crime reminiscent of the infamous Meerut drum murder case. In Sambhal district's Chandausi, a woman allegedly conspired with her lovers to kill her husband. The perpetrators reportedly chopped the victim's body into pieces, placed them in poly bags, and dumped them at various locations. The case was cracked based on crucial information provided by the couple's daughter.
