Visakhapatnam to Launch Heli-Tourism and Caravan Parks in Araku Valley
District authorities in Visakhapatnam are intensifying efforts to introduce heli-tourism for tourists in Araku Valley in the near future. This initiative aims to provide thrilling aerial experiences, often highlighted during special events like the Araku Utsav, offering panoramic views of the Eastern Ghats.
Heli-Tourism Proposal and Infrastructure
A proposal is underway for helicopter rides from Visakhapatnam to Araku Valley, designed to give visitors a bird's-eye perspective of lush valleys, sprawling coffee plantations, and rugged hilly terrain. To support this, a permanent helipad has been constructed in a horticulture field at Kottavalasa. The tourism department, in collaboration with private agencies, has completed all necessary measures to ensure the safety and success of these rides.
Enhanced Tourist Facilities and Infrastructure
Beyond heli-tourism, authorities are working to attract more visitors by improving facilities and infrastructure. The government has established caravan tourism parks in five strategic locations: Araku Finery, Jolaput Reservoir in Munchingput, Lammasingi in Chintapalli, and Maredumilli. Each park is receiving an investment of Rs 1 crore for basic amenities and recreation facilities. Currently, these projects are in the tendering stage, with caravan tourism buses already deployed by state authorities.
Homestays and Dome Houses for Tribal Tourism
To enrich the tourist experience, plans include around 2,000 homestays in tribal villages, with four already operational in Chompi village near Araku. These homestays allow visitors to immerse themselves in the tribal lifestyle and cuisine. Many tribals have volunteered to offer homestays by equipping their houses with necessary facilities. Additionally, dome houses with modern amenities are planned for key tourist spots in Alluri Sitarama Raju district, as confirmed by District Collector AS Dinesh Kumar.
