Tourist Tragedy at Frozen Sela Lake: One Dead, One Missing
A tragic accident at the high-altitude Sela Lake in Arunachal Pradesh claimed the life of a tourist from Kerala on Friday. Another member of the group remains missing after the frozen surface of the lake cracked beneath them.
How the Incident Unfolded
The disaster struck when a group of seven tourists from Kerala visited the scenic Sela Lake. Situated at an altitude of nearly 13,700 feet, the lake's surface was frozen. One tourist ventured toward the center of the frozen expanse to position his camera for a photograph.
Without warning, the ice gave way under his weight. He plunged into the frigid waters. Two companions immediately attempted a rescue but also fell through the cracking ice into the lake.
Army Launches High-Altitude Rescue Operation
Authorities received an alert about the emergency. The Army's Gajraj Corps quickly dispatched a specialized rescue team to the remote location. Army divers faced extreme challenges including sub-zero temperatures and harsh high-altitude conditions.
Police personnel and local civil administration officials assisted the military team in the difficult operation. The rescuers managed to pull two of the three individuals from the icy water.
Medical Response and Current Status
Medical teams provided immediate aid to the recovered tourists. One person responded successfully to revival efforts. Unfortunately, the other was declared dead at the scene.
Defence PRO Lieutenant Colonel M Rawat confirmed these details. The deceased tourist has been identified as 26-year-old Dinu. The missing tourist is 24-year-old Mahadev.
