Mandalpatti Jeep Association Implements Strict Tourist Protection Measures
In a significant move to safeguard tourists, the Mandalpatti Jeep Owners' and Drivers' Association has issued a firm directive to all jeep drivers operating between Madikeri and Mandalpatti. The association has mandated strict adherence to guidelines set by the district administration to ensure a safe and fair experience for visitors.
Fixed Fare and Registration Requirements
Unnikrishna, the president of the Association, emphasized that jeep drivers are now required to charge a fixed rate of Rs 2,500 only for a round trip from Madikeri to Mandalpatti. This measure aims to eliminate price gouging and exploitation. Additionally, only yellow-board registered jeeps will be authorized to ferry tourists, with each vehicle receiving a unique number issued by the Town police station.
Unnikrishna confirmed that jeep owners must submit all necessary vehicle documents to the police department to obtain these numbers. "Jeeps with numbers will be allowed to ferry tourists to Mandalpatti," he stated, highlighting the importance of proper registration.
Enhanced Tourist Experience and Queue System
To improve the tourist experience, the administration has imposed a condition that tourists must be allowed to spend at least 1 hour at the viewpoint before returning. This ensures visitors have ample time to enjoy the scenic beauty without being rushed. Furthermore, bookings for jeep rides will be managed on a queue basis, promoting fairness and reducing conflicts among drivers.
Collective Agreement and Strict Enforcement
During a recent meeting with administration and police officials, 150 drivers unanimously agreed to these new norms. Unnikrishna warned that any driver found charging additional money beyond the fixed fare will face immediate action from concerned officials. This collective commitment underscores the association's dedication to ethical practices.
Channapanda Darshan, an office bearer of the association, reinforced that the police department will not issue numbers to vehicles lacking proper documents. He also confirmed that drivers must charge Rs 50 per vehicle as an entry fee, ensuring transparency in all transactions.
These steps were initiated following a recent complaint from a tourist about exploitation, prompting swift corrective actions by the authorities. The association's proactive approach aims to restore trust and enhance the reputation of Mandalpatti as a tourist-friendly destination in Karnataka.
