Lucknow's Gomti River to Get Luxury Cruise Service for Tourism Boost
The city of Lucknow is set to enhance its tourism and recreational offerings with the introduction of a luxury cruise service on the Gomti River. This initiative, spearheaded by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), aims to provide a unique river experience for residents and visitors alike.
Operational Details and Timeline
The cruise will operate along a scenic route between Hanuman Setu and Gomti Barrage, with each round trip estimated to take approximately 30 to 45 minutes. During a recent site inspection on Sunday, LDA vice-chairperson Prathamesh Kumar reviewed the construction progress at the riverfront near Hanuman Setu. He directed officials to expedite the work, with a target to complete construction and commence operations within the next five months.
Project Development and Financials
The project was initiated through a request for proposal (RFP), and Kolkata-based M/s Balaji Sales and Poornima Enterprises was selected to undertake the construction. The cruise is being built at an estimated cost of about Rs 16 crore, which will be fully borne by the company. Once operational, the company will pay an annual revenue of Rs 16 lakh to the LDA, ensuring a sustainable partnership for the city's development.
Features and Amenities
The luxury cruise will measure 45 metres in length and 10 metres in width, offering a range of modern amenities to enhance the passenger experience. The lower deck will include a state-of-the-art conference hall, a VIP lounge, and digital screens, while the upper deck will feature an open restaurant for dining with panoramic views. A captain and five marine crew members will be deployed on board to ensure safety and smooth operations.
Ticket Pricing and Additional Services
The proposed ticket price for a ride is set at Rs 300 per person. Additional charges will apply for lunch, dinner, or buffet services, allowing passengers to customize their experience. To make the cruise educational and entertaining, announcements and information about the river's ecosystem will be shared, with special activities planned for young visitors, particularly children.
