Goa Tourism Department Announces Major Funding for 2026 Carnival

The tourism department in Goa has unveiled a substantial financial outlay of Rs 1.5 crore for the upcoming Goa Carnival 2026. This significant investment is designed to elevate the event's scale and quality, with a clear focus on boosting participation and fostering creativity among participants.

Detailed Allocation of Funds for Prizes and Infrastructure

Of the total budget, Rs 48 lakh has been specifically earmarked for prize money. This strategic move aims to incentivize higher levels of involvement and artistic innovation from local communities and performers. The remaining Rs 1 crore is allocated towards enhancing infrastructure and logistics across various carnival venues throughout the state.

Specific financial distributions include:

  • Rs 19 lakh dedicated to Porvorim for its carnival activities.
  • Rs 16 lakh set aside for Morjim to support its celebrations.
  • Panaji, Margao, Vasco, and Mapusa will collectively share Rs 29.4 lakh. This portion will be utilized for a combination of prize money distributions and critical infrastructure improvements at these key locations.

Kuldeep Arolkar, the managing director of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation, emphasized the department's commitment to delivering a top-tier experience. He stated that the funding is crucial for maintaining high standards of quality and safety, ensuring that all visitors enjoy a memorable and secure carnival atmosphere across every site.

Schedule of Events and Community Engagement Focus

The Goa Carnival 2026 is scheduled to commence on February 14 with a grand flag-off ceremony for the parade. A pre-event curtain raiser will take place on February 13 in Porvorim to build anticipation. Subsequent celebrations will follow in Margao on February 15, Vasco on February 16, and the festivities will culminate with grand events in Mapusa and Morjim on February 17.

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte highlighted the broader objectives behind this investment. He explained that the goal is to promote deep community engagement while offering visitors an authentic and immersive Goan experience. This initiative reinforces the government's dedication to responsible and regenerative tourism practices that honor local traditions and actively protect the environment.
