Bharat Gaurav Train Makes Historic Arrival in Mizoram to Boost Tourism

In a significant milestone for Mizoram's tourism sector, the Bharat Gaurav train, currently touring the northeastern region under the 'North East Discovery Tour', arrived at Sairang railway station at 9am on Thursday for the first time. This visit is part of a follow-up initiative after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the tourism department and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation in August 2025.

Official Welcome and Tourist Details

Officials from the tourism department, led by deputy director Rachel Lalrinhlui along with department staff, received the train and its passengers at the station. The special tourist train reached Mizoram from Agartala, carrying 81 tourists, including visitors from the United States and Nepal, highlighting the international appeal of this initiative.

Tourist Itinerary and Key Attractions

During their stay, the visitors toured Aizawl and its surrounding areas, covering key attractions such as the Aizawl Zoological Park, Solomon's Temple, the Mizoram State Museum, and Aizawl Peak. These sites offer a rich blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and panoramic views, showcasing Mizoram's unique offerings to both domestic and international travelers.

Journey Schedule and Broader Tour Impact

The tourists departed Aizawl at 7pm on Thursday, heading towards Dimapur in Nagaland, without an overnight halt. The journey began in Delhi on February 3 and the tour covers all the northeastern states except Manipur. The train is scheduled to return to Delhi on February 18, completing a comprehensive circuit that aims to promote regional tourism and connectivity.

This initiative not only enhances Mizoram's visibility as a tourist destination but also supports the broader goal of integrating the northeast into India's tourism map, fostering economic growth and cultural exchange through strategic partnerships and dedicated travel programs.
