The vibrant community of Zomi marked a significant milestone as the 78th edition of the Zomi National Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Centenary Hall of the Evangelical Baptist Convention (EBC) in Churachandpur on Friday. The event drew a diverse gathering of community leaders, government officials, and cultural troupes, creating an atmosphere of unity and cultural pride.

Distinguished Guests and Official Presence

Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losi Dikho graced the occasion as the chief guest, adding a layer of governmental support to the celebrations. He was accompanied by a notable delegation including Karong MLA K Kumo Sha, members of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) from Senapati, Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S, and representatives from the 27 Sector Assam Rifles. Their speeches centered on the aspirations of the Zomi community and their enduring resilience in the face of challenges. Deputy Chief Minister Losi Dikho, in his role as chief guest, delivered a message of solidarity and governmental commitment.

In his address, Dikho stated, “People from Imphal miss and love the Zomi community. We are considering your demand point to point with the chief minister.” He announced significant developments, including the granting of a turf ground funded under the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), with construction works set to commence soon. Dikho assured that other demands raised by the Zomi Council would be addressed, emphasizing the government's priority to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.

Commitment to Rehabilitation and Peace

Speaking to the media after the event, Deputy Chief Minister Dikho elaborated on the government's efforts to accelerate the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs). He highlighted this as a crucial component of the ongoing peace process in the state, aiming to foster stability and support for affected communities.
