Veer Baal Diwas: PM Modi Honors Sahibzades' Sacrifice

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying solemn tributes on the occasion of Veer Baal Diwas, a day dedicated to remembering the supreme sacrifice of the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh. The day, observed on December 26, serves as a powerful reminder of the courage and unwavering faith displayed by the young Sahibzades in the face of tyranny.

National Homage to the Young Warriors

In a message shared on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep reverence for the Sahibzades. He stated that their martyrdom continues to inspire millions and strengthen the nation's collective resolve. Veer Baal Diwas was officially declared by the Government of India in 2022 to commemorate the bravery of Baba Fateh Singh and Baba Zorawar Singh, who were executed on the orders of the Mughal governor Wazir Khan in Sirhind.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the day is not just about remembering history, but about drawing inspiration from it. He highlighted the values of courage, righteousness, and sacrifice that the young sons of the tenth Sikh Guru embodied. Their story is a cornerstone of Sikh history and a testament to the indomitable spirit of resistance against oppression.

The Historic Sacrifice of the Sahibzades

The observance centers on the martyrdom of the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru. The two younger sons, Baba Fateh Singh (aged 6) and Baba Zorawar Singh (aged 9), were bricked alive and later executed after refusing to convert to Islam. Their grandmother, Mata Gujri, passed away in the cold dungeon of the Sirhind fort alongside them.

The two elder sons, Baba Ajit Singh (aged 18) and Baba Jujhar Singh (aged 14), had earlier laid down their lives fighting in the Battle of Chamkaur in 1705. This collective sacrifice of the entire family is a unique and profound chapter in Indian history, symbolizing the ultimate price paid for faith and freedom.

The day of December 26 was chosen as it marks the day of the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzades. The government's decision to mark this day nationally aims to ensure that the tale of their bravery reaches every corner of the country and is remembered by generations to come.

A Legacy That Inspires the Nation

The institution of Veer Baal Diwas is seen as a significant step in honoring India's diverse and rich history of heroism. Prime Minister Modi noted that the courage of the Sahibzades is a source of eternal inspiration. Their sacrifice underscores the importance of standing up for one's beliefs and principles, regardless of age or circumstance.

Across the country, especially in Punjab and among the Sikh community, the day is marked by religious processions, prayers, and community readings of the Sikh scriptures. Schools and educational institutions are encouraged to organize programs to educate children about this pivotal historical event. The national recognition amplifies these efforts, weaving the narrative into the broader fabric of India's historical consciousness.

The observance reinforces the idea that the strength of a nation lies in remembering and drawing strength from the valor of its youngest heroes. As the Prime Minister stated, the story of the Sahibzades ignites a spirit of patriotism and dedication to the nation's unity and integrity.
