In a vibrant display of patriotism, a tourist from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, marked Republic Day with a unique celebration at the historic Ghanta Ghar in Lal Chowk, Srinagar, on Monday. The visitor, identified as Arun, painted his entire body in the colours of the Indian Tricolour, creating a striking visual spectacle that captured the attention of onlookers.
Patriotic Gesture at Iconic Location
Arun's celebration was not limited to body art alone. He was seen carrying a miniature model of the BrahMos missile, symbolizing national defense strength, while enthusiastically waving the national flag throughout his appearance. The tourist raised spirited slogans of "Bharat Mata ki Jai," adding to the festive atmosphere at one of Srinagar's most recognizable landmarks.
Continuous Visits Since 2022
Speaking about his connection to the region, Arun revealed that he has been visiting Srinagar regularly since 2022. "I extend greetings to everyone on the occasion of Republic Day," he stated. "I have been coming here continuously since 2022. From here, I would like to give a message to the Government of India and PM Modi that today's youth don't just dream but see dreams becoming reality."
Reflecting on Changing Times
The tourist reflected on the transformation he has witnessed in the region, noting that "hoisting and waving the Tiranga here used to be a challenge." He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with pioneering efforts in this regard, saying, "Narendra Modi ji was the first to hoist the Tiranga here when the situation wasn't good. I have been coming here alone since 2022 and waving the Tiranga."
Arun's solo visits and consistent flag-waving demonstrations represent a personal commitment to celebrating national symbols in the Kashmir Valley. His Republic Day appearance at Ghanta Ghar serves as a testament to the growing normalization of patriotic expressions in public spaces across Srinagar.
The event highlights how individual citizens are finding creative ways to commemorate national occasions, particularly in locations with complex historical contexts. Arun's use of body paint, combined with traditional flag-waving, represents a modern interpretation of patriotic celebration that resonates with contemporary youth culture while honoring national traditions.
