Tamil Language Gains National Momentum, Says Governor R N Ravi

Governor R N Ravi declared on Monday that the Tamil language is discovering new voices and hearts throughout India, with an increasing number of educational institutions outside Tamil Nadu embracing its instruction. During his Republic Day address, he emphasized that this linguistic expansion reflects the nation's cultural unity.

Kashi-Tamil Sangamam: A Cultural Bridge

The fourth edition of the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam has emerged as a significant platform for promoting Tamil language and culture beyond state borders. Governor Ravi detailed that over 300 students from Uttar Pradesh visited Tamil Nadu to immerse themselves in Tamil literature, heritage, traditions, and cuisine. Concurrently, more than 50 teachers from Tamil Nadu traveled to Uttar Pradesh, introducing the Tamil language to over 1,500 students there.

Inspired by this successful exchange, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to introduce Tamil as a third language in its curriculum. Additionally, Guwahati University has commenced offering certificate and diploma courses in Tamil, further testament to the language's widening appeal.

Personal Encounters and National Spirit

Governor Ravi expressed being deeply moved when students from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh conversed with him in fluent Tamil. He noted that such interactions embody the true essence of the Ek Bharat–Shreshtha Bharat initiative, fostering mutual understanding and respect among India's diverse communities.

Commemorating Vande Mataram

Reflecting on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, Ravi highlighted the song's special significance in Tamil Nadu. He credited figures like Subramania Bharati and V O Chidambaram Pillai for disseminating its message among the people. Schools and colleges across the state are actively observing this milestone, celebrating the patriotic fervor it inspires.

Tamil Nadu's Development and Infrastructure

Beyond cultural achievements, Governor Ravi underscored India's advancements in space, defense, and renewable energy sectors. Tamil Nadu, in particular, is benefiting from substantial infrastructure investments. Key developments include:

  • A railway budget allocation of ₹6,626 crore for the state, with modernization efforts underway at more than 80 stations.
  • The new Tuticorin airport terminal, which has enhanced regional connectivity.
  • The North Cargo Berth III at V O Chidambaranar Port, strengthening logistical capabilities and supporting trade.

These initiatives collectively contribute to Tamil Nadu's economic growth and improved infrastructure, aligning with national progress goals.
