Punjab Health Minister Launches Scholarly Book on Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib in Patiala
In a significant cultural and academic event, Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh released the book titled 'Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji Study: Survey and Evaluation' on Saturday. The release took place during the 37th Punjabi Development Conference, which was organized by Punjabi University in Patiala, underscoring the institution's pivotal role in promoting regional language and religious scholarship.
Minister Praises University's Ongoing Contributions
Following the book launch, Dr. Balbir Singh commended Punjabi University for its continuous and dedicated efforts in the fields of Punjabi Development and Religious Studies. He emphasized that such initiatives are crucial for preserving and advancing the rich heritage and spiritual legacy of Punjab, fostering a deeper understanding among scholars and the general public alike.
Research Funded by Ministry of Culture
Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Jagdeep Singh provided insights into the research behind the book. He explained that the work was carried out by the Guru Gobind Singh Chair, established within the Department of Guru Gobind Singh Religious Studies. This chair operates with a grant from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, highlighting national support for academic endeavors in religious and cultural domains.
Jagdeep Singh further detailed that the research project was initiated to survey and evaluate studies related to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, coinciding with the 400th birth anniversary of the Guru. The second phase of this comprehensive project was completed in the 350th year of the Guru's martyrdom, marking a timely tribute to his life and teachings.
Five-Year Scholarly Effort Culminates in Two Volumes
Prof. Gurmeet Singh Sidhu, the in-charge of the Guru Gobind Singh Chair, elaborated on the meticulous process involved in creating the book. Over the past five years, researchers collected information from various libraries, thoroughly studying every available book related to Guru Tegh Bahadur. This extensive effort ensured a comprehensive and authoritative survey of existing literature.
The resulting publication consists of two volumes that delve into multiple aspects of Guru Tegh Bahadur's legacy:
- Survey, observation, and evaluation of studies on the message of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's bani (sacred compositions).
- Analysis of the works undertaken by the Guru for the welfare of humanity.
- Examination of various facets of his martyrdom, providing a holistic view of his spiritual and social impact.
Prof. Sidhu expressed confidence that this scholarly work will serve as an invaluable resource for scholars and researchers, enabling them to conduct further studies and build upon the foundational insights presented in the book. The release event not only celebrated academic achievement but also reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary research in understanding and honoring historical and religious figures.
