Prayagraj Magh Mela Kalpwasis Return After Holy Dip

Prayagraj Magh Mela Concludes Kalpwas Period with Maghi Purnima Snan

With Maghi Purnima snan scheduled for February 1, the sacred event will mark the conclusion of the kalpwas period at the ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj. This significant holy dip represents the second last main bathing ritual of the mela, prompting lakhs of pilgrims who have been camping along the banks of the Ganga to prepare for their return journeys to various destinations across the country.

Mela Police Issues Advisory for Pilgrim Exodus

Anticipating the departure of approximately 4 lakh kalpwasis following the Maghi Purnima snan, the mela police authorities issued a crucial advisory on Wednesday. This advisory is directed at both the returning pilgrims and those family members arriving at the mela campus to collect their relatives. The police have established specific entry and exit routes tailored for different geographical directions to manage the substantial traffic flow efficiently and ensure a smooth transition.

Kalpwasis Reflect on an Unforgettable Spiritual Journey

Despite enduring the bitter cold and initial challenges with amenities, the kalpwasis maintained remarkable enthusiasm throughout their month-long stay. Many described the experience as unforgettable, highlighting how it provided profound insights into diverse social, cultural, and religious beliefs, alongside various spiritual activities that enriched their understanding.

Chitrakoot resident Radha Rani Dubey shared her perspective, stating, "Beyond the religious and spiritual engagements, my family and I witnessed a vast assembly of devotees from different states and kalpwasis from various districts. We observed them spending their time on the Ganga banks, participating collectively in sacred activities. This environment allowed us to forge new friendships, form groups, and commit to maintaining these connections indefinitely."

From Pratapgarh, D K Dubey emphasized the dedication required, noting, "The 'Kalpwas vrata' or fast must be completed before one is honored as a kalpwasi. Residing for an entire month on the Ganga banks and adhering to an austere lifestyle amidst such weather conditions is undoubtedly a challenging endeavor."

Personal Experiences Highlight the Mela's Diversity

Ramanand, who spent the full month at the mela, expressed, "Each individual here gains unique experiences. We invited our relatives and neighbors to the Sangam, creating wonderful memories together. Such a diverse and enriching spiritual encounter is truly possible only at this sacred confluence."

Ramesh Dwivedi from Sulantpur recounted his determination, saying, "I made the decision to undertake kalpwas even at the age of 65. It was my inner strength that empowered me to remain steadfast on the banks, overcoming all obstacles during this period."

Interactions Enrich the Mela Experience for All

Throughout the kalpwas period, regular mela visitors also engaged with the kalpwasis, fostering a sense of community. The resonant chants of shlokas and mantras inspired other pilgrims and devotees, often encouraging them to extend their stay for hours, immersed in the spiritual ambiance of the Magh Mela.
