Odisha Government Takes Proactive Steps for Uninterrupted Maha Shivratri Celebrations
In response to persistent disruptions affecting the sacred Maha Shivratri Jagar Yatra rituals at the historic Lingaraj Temple, the Odisha government has significantly escalated its preparatory measures. The primary objective is to guarantee the seamless and orderly execution of the festival scheduled for February 15. This decisive action aims to address recurring issues, including disputes among temple servitors, that have previously marred the observance.
High-Level Review Meeting Charts the Course
A crucial high-level review meeting on festival preparedness was convened on Monday, presided over by Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan. The session brought together government officials, temple authorities, and sevayats (servitors). Minister Harichandan delivered a clear mandate, emphasizing the uncompromising adherence to traditional rituals, their precise timing, and the facilitation of orderly darshan for devotees. This directive covers the entire festival span, from its commencement to the climactic lighting of the Mahadeepa atop the shrine, the most pivotal ritual signifying the culmination of Shivratri.
The minister underscored the critical importance of discipline, public safety, and highly efficient crowd management systems. Notably, the ceremonial lifting of the Mahadeepa has been officially scheduled for 10 PM this year.
Comprehensive Arrangements and Strict Directives
Minister Harichandan issued detailed instructions to officials, mandating comprehensive arrangements across multiple fronts. These include robust planning for parking facilities, uninterrupted drinking water supply, enhanced sanitation services, adequate lighting, strategic barricading, stringent fire safety protocols, and meticulous traffic and crowd management strategies.
Authorities were also directed to focus on aesthetically decorating the temple and its surrounding areas to elevate the festive atmosphere for all attendees. In a firm move to ensure security, the minister ordered strict legal action against individuals found with counterfeit passes or any unauthorized persons attempting to gain entry into the temple premises.
Recognizing the Festival's Growing Prominence
Highlighting the expanding stature of the Jagar Yatra, Harichandan noted that the festival now draws devotees not only from across Odisha but also from various other states within India and from international communities. This growing appeal necessitates heightened logistical and managerial planning.
