The Central Lawn of the Botanic Garden at the National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) in Lucknow transformed into a vibrant tapestry of colors as the two-day Chrysanthemum and Coleus Show 2025 opened to an enthusiastic public on Saturday. A large gathering of visitors spent the day admiring spectacular floral displays, capturing photographs, and purchasing plants.
Inauguration and Distinguished Presence
The exhibition was formally inaugurated by M Devraj, Principal Secretary of the Department of Appointment and Personnel. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. A K Shasany, the Director of NBRI, marking the significance of the event in the city's horticultural calendar.
A Spectacular Display of Floral Diversity
According to Dr. K J Singh, Principal Scientist and convener of the show, the scale of participation was impressive. A total of 95 exhibitors participated, presenting 671 entries for visitors and judges to appreciate. The core attraction was the display of 75 distinct varieties of chrysanthemum germplasm, celebrated for their astonishing array of colors, unique forms, and diverse flower types.
A highlight for those interested in the science behind the beauty was a special stall set up by CSIR, New Delhi. This stall provided valuable information on the CSIR Floriculture Mission, an initiative aimed at promoting advanced scientific practices among horticulturists and floriculture enthusiasts across the country.
Awards and Public Access
The competitive spirit of the show was upheld as judges evaluated the magnificent entries and awarded prestigious memorial trophies and challenge cups to the best exhibits. For those who missed the opening day, the exhibition remains open to the public on Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, offering a perfect weekend retreat for families and nature lovers in Lucknow.
