Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to Virtually Inaugurate Keeladi Open Air Museum This Friday
The Department of Archaeology in Tamil Nadu has announced that Chief Minister M K Stalin will officially inaugurate the new Keeladi open air museum through a video conferencing ceremony scheduled for this Friday. This significant cultural event marks a major milestone in the preservation and public display of the state's rich archaeological heritage.
A Substantial Investment in Cultural Preservation
The newly developed museum spans an impressive 4.5 acres of land with a built-up area covering 65,380 square feet. The total estimated cost for this ambitious project amounts to ₹24.3 crore, reflecting the government's substantial commitment to archaeological conservation and public education. This open air facility has been strategically established adjacent to the existing Keeladi museum, creating a comprehensive archaeological complex for visitors and researchers alike.
Showcasing Remarkable Archaeological Discoveries
The centerpiece of the open air museum will be the largest brick structure ever unearthed during the extensive excavations at Keeladi. This remarkable find will be prominently displayed alongside numerous other archaeological treasures. The facility features two specially designed exhibition halls that have been created to facilitate optimal public viewing and interpretation of the discoveries. These exhibition spaces will present various artifacts including intricate ring wells, numerous pottery fragments, and ancient drainage systems that provide fascinating insights into the advanced urban planning of the ancient settlement.
Complementing an Already Rich Collection
The existing Keeladi museum already houses hundreds of precious artifacts that have been systematically discovered since archaeological excavations at the site began in the 2014-15 period. The addition of this open air museum will significantly expand the exhibition capacity and provide visitors with a more immersive experience of the archaeological findings.
