Sacred Hydro-Cleaning Initiative Launched at Bodh Gaya's Mahabodhi Mahavihara
The historic Mahabodhi Mahavihara in Bodh Gaya, a revered UNESCO World Heritage site, witnessed the commencement of a spiritually significant hydro-cleaning project on Tuesday. This meticulous work began with solemn prayers and blessings offered by venerable monks, creating an atmosphere of deep devotion and reverence at the sacred location.
Thai Volunteer Group Leads Devotional Effort
The hydro-cleaning initiative is being spearheaded by "Chobtham," a dedicated volunteer group from Thailand, who have undertaken this task as a profound gesture of spiritual service and devotion. This effort highlights the strong cultural and religious ties between Thailand and this pivotal Buddhist pilgrimage site.
Official Oversight and Conservation Protocols
Mahashweta Maharathi, the member secretary of the Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC), who was present during the prayer session, provided detailed insights into the project's execution. "The work has started in close coordination with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to ensure proper assessment and monitoring arrangements are in place," Maharathi stated.
She emphasized that the cleaning process is being conducted with utmost care and strict adherence to established conservation guidelines. This approach is crucial to preserving the sanctity, structural integrity, and invaluable heritage value of the Mahavihara. An ASI representative will be present throughout the entire process, including during the erection of bamboo scaffolding and the cleaning itself, to guarantee full compliance with conservation norms and safety protocols.
Historical Devotion from Thailand
This cleaning initiative follows a long tradition of Thai devotion to the Mahabodhi Mahavihara. Notably, the royal family of Thailand and other Thai devotees have previously donated approximately 432.049 kg of gold to the temple as a mark of their deep reverence. This generous contribution has been used to cover the spire of the shrine structure with thin gold sheets, enhancing its spiritual and aesthetic grandeur.
