Goa Prepares for Grand Shigmo Festival Celebrations Across 19 Locations

The coastal state of Goa is gearing up for its annual Shigmo festival, with celebrations scheduled to commence from March 5, 2024. According to tourism director Kedar Naik, the festivities will kick off in Ponda town, marking the beginning of a vibrant cultural extravaganza that showcases Goa's rich heritage through traditional dance performances and colorful float parades.

Strict Guidelines Implemented for Smooth Celebrations

The tourism department has established comprehensive guidelines to ensure orderly celebrations throughout the festival period. All dance performances and float parades must conclude by 10pm, adhering to the government-mandated music curfew. This measure aims to balance cultural expression with community comfort and noise regulation.

Director Naik elaborated on the specific regulations, stating, "We have collaboratively developed rules for Shigmo, including a maximum team size of 150 participants for the Romtamel performances. Each team will operate within strict time limits to ensure timely completion of their presentations." The department is committed to ensuring that all celebrations conclude promptly according to the government's predetermined schedule.
