Dehradun's Vasantotsav-2026 Flower Exhibition to Highlight 'Floral Healing' Theme

The annual three-day flower exhibition, Vasantotsav-2026, is set to be organized at Lok Bhavan in Dehradun from February 27 to March 1, with this year's theme centered on 'Floral Healing'. The event promises to blend cultural richness with environmental and economic initiatives, reinforcing its significance in Uttarakhand's annual calendar.

Governor Unveils Festival Details and Economic Impact

At a curtain-raiser event held on Friday, Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (retd) elaborated on the programme, emphasizing that the festival has evolved into a crucial component of Uttarakhand's cultural, economic, and environmental identity in recent years. He announced that 'Bhojpatra' has been chosen for the special postal cover this year, adding a unique touch to the celebrations.

The governor highlighted the festival's role in boosting local livelihoods, stating, "The festival provides a vital platform for local products, handicrafts, traditional arts, and agriculture-based goods. Artisans, farmers, women self-help groups, and young entrepreneurs gain an opportunity to display and market their products, thereby promoting self-employment and strengthening the local economy."

Expanded Competitions and Innovative Demonstrations

The exhibition will feature 15 main competition categories with 55 sub-categories, culminating in the awarding of 165 prizes on March 1 after evaluation by a dedicated jury. A notable addition this year is the inclusion of soil-less technology in a hydroponic cultivation technology demonstration competition, showcasing advancements in agricultural practices.

Participation is extensive, with over 30 state departments, along with research institutes, agricultural universities, boards, and corporations, set to take part in the event. This broad involvement underscores the festival's interdisciplinary appeal and its commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration.

Cultural and Special Programmes Enhance Festival Experience

Cultural activities will be a highlight, with a one-hour cultural evening scheduled on the first and second days. Additionally, local cultural programmes representing various districts of Uttarakhand will be held during the daytime on all three days within the Lok Bhavan premises, offering a vibrant showcase of the state's diverse heritage.

For the first time, the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities, Dehradun, and Niramaya Yogam Research Foundation, Haridwar, will conduct a live demonstration of a rhythmic yoga programme, adding a wellness dimension to the event. Performances by bands of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, the Uttarakhand Provincial Armed Constabulary, and the Home Guards will further enrich the festive atmosphere.

Vasantotsav-2026 is poised to be a multifaceted event that not only celebrates floral beauty but also drives economic growth, cultural preservation, and environmental awareness in Uttarakhand.
