Bharangam and Sarang Festival Kicks Off with Pomp at DLC SUPVA Rohtak

The vibrant four-day cultural extravaganza, comprising the 'Bharangam' and 'Sarang' festivals, was officially inaugurated on Monday at the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA) in Rohtak. The event drew a distinguished crowd of celebrities, politicians, and artists, marking a significant moment for the university's cultural calendar.

Star-Studded Inauguration Ceremony

The festivities began with a ceremonial inauguration led by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya and his team, who warmly welcomed the guests. The proceedings commenced with floral tributes offered at the statue of Surya Kavi Pandit Lakhmi Chand on campus. Following this, the flags of Bharangam, the Sarang festival, and the university were hoisted, accompanied by the traditional lighting of lamps to symbolize the start of the celebrations.

Chief guest Manoj Tiwari, the renowned Bhojpuri singer and Member of Parliament from North East Delhi, enthralled the audience with a performance of his popular songs. During his act, Tiwari made special mentions of DLC SUPVA and repeatedly urged Vice-Chancellor Amit Arya to invite him back to the university in the future, highlighting his appreciation for the institution.

Cultural Performances and Distinguished Attendees

The 'Sarang' festival, which started around 11 am and continued until 5 pm, featured a variety of cultural performances held in the courtyard of the university's FTV department. Simultaneously, the 'Bharangam' event, organized by the National School of Drama, took place in the mini auditorium. In the evening, the play 'Umeed: Manushya Zinda Hai' was staged, adding to the day's rich cultural offerings.

The event was graced by an impressive array of dignitaries, including Bollywood actor Yashpal Sharma, Olympic medal-winning wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, wrestler and model Sangram Singh, senior NSD theatre artist Vidyanidhi, Rohtak DC Sachin Gupta, filmmaker Atul Gangwar, Haryana State Women's Commission chairperson Renu Bhatia, and social worker Subhash Ahuja. Their presence underscored the festival's importance and broad appeal.

Exhibitions and Honors

All guests took the opportunity to view a photo exhibition displayed in the university gallery. Manoj Tiwari expressed particular admiration for a rangoli artwork on display, congratulating the team responsible for its creation. In a gesture of appreciation, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amit Arya, along with his team, honored each guest by presenting them with shawls and mementoes, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and respect.

Reflecting on the significance of the festival, actor Yashpal Sharma remarked that hosting such a large international theatre festival like Bharangam at DLC SUPVA is a major achievement. He emphasized that February 9 would undoubtedly be recorded in the university's history as a landmark day for cultural enrichment and artistic expression.

The inauguration set a high standard for the remaining days of the festival, promising a blend of traditional and contemporary performances that celebrate India's diverse cultural heritage.
