Bengaluru's Premier Carnatic Music Festival Returns with 'Purana Gitam' Theme
The cultural heart of Bengaluru is set to resonate with classical melodies as the 17th edition of the annual Bharatiya Samagana Sabha music festival commences on February 5 at the iconic Chowdiah Memorial Hall on Sankey Road. This four-day celebration of Indian classical music promises to be a significant event for aficionados and newcomers alike, bringing together both established maestros and emerging talents in the Carnatic tradition.
Festival Details and Musical Lineup
Organised by the Bengaluru-based Bharatiya Samagana Sabha, this year's festival is thoughtfully themed "Purana Gitam", highlighting ancient musical compositions and their enduring relevance. According to official statements from the organisers, the event will feature two evening concerts each day, ensuring a rich and immersive experience for attendees.
The second session performances are particularly noteworthy, with a stellar lineup that includes:
- Sivasri Skandaprasad on February 5
- Sandeep Narayan on February 6
- Harisankar on February 7
- The acclaimed Ranjani-Gayatri duo on February 8
Meanwhile, the first session offers its own array of talent, featuring:
- A vocal concert by Dhanya Dinesh Rudrapatnam on February 5
- A vocal duet by Archana and Samanvi on February 6

Special Awards and Recognitions
In addition to the captivating performances, the Sabha will use this occasion to honour exceptional contributions to Carnatic music. The Samagana Mathanga Award will be presented to the renowned violin maestros Ganesh and Kumaresh, recognising their lifelong dedication and artistry. Furthermore, the Samagana Vasantha Award will be conferred upon the promising young Carnatic vocalist Spoorthi Rao during the evening of February 7, spotlighting the next generation of musical excellence.
