Kashi Vishwanath Dham Initiates Special Conservation Operation for Ancient Peepal Tree
In a significant move to preserve its sacred heritage, the administration of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi has launched a special operation focused on the conservation of an ancient peepal tree located on its premises. This initiative, which commenced on Wednesday, aims to safeguard the revered tree by employing a unique blend of scientific and traditional methods, ensuring its longevity and spiritual significance for future generations.
Expert-Led Treatment Process Combines Modern and Ancient Techniques
The conservation work is being carried out by a team of experts, including Prof S P Singh, Prashant, Kalyan Barman, Om Prakash, and Tejnath Verma. They have prepared a special mixture of medicines combined with neem oil, which is being sprayed on the tree using entirely organic methods. This approach highlights a commitment to environmental sustainability while addressing the tree's health issues.
To maintain the sanctity and purity of the process, approximately 1,200 litres of Gangajal and Triveni water have been incorporated into the treatment. This inclusion underscores the deep cultural and religious importance attached to the tree, which has long been a centre of reverence and faith for devotees visiting the site.
Addressing Critical Health Issues in the Ancient Tree
Regarding the current condition of the peepal tree, expert Prashant noted that its leaves had turned completely yellow, a clear indication of chlorosis and nutrient deficiency. The visible difference between normal leaves and those of this tree reflects traditional symptoms of such deficiencies, signaling an urgent need for intervention.
Prashant warned that if timely treatment is not administered, serious problems could arise in the future, potentially jeopardizing the tree's survival. To prevent this, regular spraying sessions will continue at periodic intervals, ensuring ongoing care and monitoring to restore the tree's health and vitality.
Ensuring Long-Term Preservation for Future Generations
The conservation effort is not just about immediate treatment but also about long-term preservation. By combining organic methods with traditional practices, the administration aims to keep this ancient peepal tree safe and thriving. This initiative serves as a model for how cultural sites can integrate modern conservation techniques with respect for tradition.
As the work progresses, it reinforces the tree's role as a symbol of faith and heritage, ensuring that it remains a cherished landmark for years to come. The dedication to this project reflects a broader commitment to environmental stewardship and cultural preservation in Varanasi.
