Uttar Pradesh Approves 70-Hectare International Yoga Hub in Baghpat
UP Cabinet Nods to Major Yoga & Wellness Centre in Baghpat

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has greenlit a landmark project to establish a world-class international yoga and wellness centre in the state. The sprawling facility will come up in Hariya Kheda village, Baghpat, covering an extensive area of 70.885 hectares.

A Public-Private Partnership for Global Wellness

This ambitious initiative will be developed as a public-private partnership (PPP) venture. The project is strategically designed to highlight India's profound yoga heritage on the global stage and attract health-focused tourists from around the world. Principal Secretary for Tourism and Culture, Amrit Abhijat, revealed that the Tata group will assemble a dedicated international team to bring world-class expertise and quality to the project.

By seamlessly integrating yoga, wellness, and spirituality, the centre aims to provide a deeply immersive experience. It is poised to become a premier destination for anyone pursuing holistic well-being, offering benefits for mental, spiritual, and physical health while showcasing the science of yoga to global visitors.

Boosting Economy and Tourism Post-Pandemic

The timing of this project aligns with a significant surge in wellness tourism observed globally after the Covid-19 pandemic. Existing centres in states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Uttarakhand already draw millions of domestic and international visitors each year. Uttar Pradesh aims to capture a substantial share of this growing market.

The state government expects the Baghpat centre to deliver multiple economic benefits:

  • Generate substantial employment opportunities locally.
  • Boost activity for local businesses and the service sector.
  • Increase state revenue, contributing directly to Uttar Pradesh's vision of becoming a one trillion-dollar economy.

A New Global Identity for Uttar Pradesh

Upon completion, the centre in Baghpat is set to become one of India's largest yoga facilities, creating a fresh global identity for Uttar Pradesh in the sphere of wellness tourism. It will cater to traditional yoga enthusiasts while also incorporating facilities and practices inspired by modern wellness trends, appealing to a broad spectrum of tourists.

Officials noted that this project will complement other major tourism initiatives in the state. These include a heritage-inspired museum currently under construction in Ayodhya. This concerted effort reflects Uttar Pradesh's focused strategy to blend cultural, spiritual, and wellness tourism, thereby significantly elevating its international appeal and visitor footprint.
