Telangana Health Week Features Large-Scale Yoga Session at Gachibowli Stadium
The Telangana health department organized a significant statewide yoga session on Friday at Hyderabad's Gachibowli Stadium. This event was a key component of the ongoing health week, which carries the theme 'Prevention is better than cure'.
Mass Participation and Official Engagement
More than 1,000 individuals, including students, young adults, and certified yoga instructors, actively participated in the session. Following the yoga activities, health officials conducted inspections of various AYUSH department stalls that were established at the stadium venue.
Minister's Emphasis on Holistic Well-being
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha addressed the gathering, strongly emphasizing the importance of both physical and mental health. He highlighted the government's substantial efforts to promote yoga across Telangana.
The minister revealed that the state has deployed 750 yoga instructors and successfully introduced yoga practices to nearly 10 lakh (1 million) residents.
Yoga as India's Global Contribution
Minister Rajanarasimha described yoga as one of India's most significant contributions to global wellness. He stated that it transcends mere physical exercise, representing a comprehensive lifestyle approach that fosters balance among body, mind, and soul.
Addressing Modern Health Challenges
The minister pointed to concerning health trends, including:
- Increasing sedentary lifestyles
- Unhealthy dietary patterns
- Environmental pollution concerns
He noted that these factors are contributing to a rapid rise in non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and various cancers.
Preventive Benefits of Regular Practice
"Regular yoga practice not only improves physical health but also reduces stress and enhances overall quality of life, helping prevent such conditions," Minister Rajanarasimha explained. He emphasized yoga's dual role in both treatment and prevention of modern health issues.
Complementary Health Initiatives
Alongside the yoga promotion, the Telangana government is implementing several additional health programs:
- Free blood pressure and diabetes screenings for all citizens above 30 years of age
- Comprehensive health testing being offered to 46 lakh (4.6 million) women's self-help group members across the state
These initiatives form part of a broader strategy to improve public health outcomes and promote preventive healthcare measures throughout Telangana.
