Work-Life Balance Essential for Mental Well-being, Experts Stress at Lucknow Conference
Maintaining a proper work-life balance is absolutely critical for preserving mental health and avoiding psychological problems, particularly in today's high-pressure modern lifestyle. This vital advice was emphasized by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak during his address at a significant mental health conference held in Lucknow on Sunday.
Digital Addiction Cases Highlight Growing Concern
Experts at the conference presented alarming cases illustrating how digital addiction can derail young lives. They cited the example of an 18-year-old student whose severe gaming addiction completely disrupted his education. The youth first left Delhi University, then subsequently dropped out of a course in Kota after reportedly spending nearly 18 hours every single day playing video games.
Specialists noted that digital addiction frequently begins at home when parents hand mobile phones to children for routine tasks. They strongly advised encouraging creative activities and maintaining what they termed "digital hygiene," pointing out that many young people now spend over nine hours daily on their mobile devices.
Comprehensive Conference Addresses Multiple Mental Health Aspects
The two-day conference, Psycon 2026, was organized by Dr. HK Agrawal, Chairman of Nirvan Hospital, and featured extensive discussions on numerous mental health topics. These included neuroplasticity in the digital age, emerging neurotechnologies such as RTMS (Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), and the profound impact of technology on parenting, relationships, and emotional health.
"Maintaining work-life balance is most important because an imbalance between both aspects causes mental issues," Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak stated during his conference remarks, highlighting how crucial equilibrium between professional and personal life has become in contemporary society.
Recognition for Mental Health Contributions
The conference also served as a platform to honor several senior experts for their lifetime contributions to mental health. Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to T.B. Singh and Krishna Dutt, while other distinguished awardees included P.K. Dalal, H. Naidu, Prabhat Sithole, and R.K. Thakral for their significant contributions across various fields of mental health.
The event brought together mental health professionals, policymakers, and experts to address the growing challenges posed by modern lifestyle pressures and digital technology's pervasive influence on psychological well-being.
