RGUHS VC Promotes Yoga, Naturopathy for Healthier Society

RGUHS Vice-Chancellor Champions Yoga and Naturopathy to Build a Healthier Society

In a significant address at the 31st graduation ceremony of SDM College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences in Ujire, Dharmasthala, Dr Bhagavan BC, Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), emphasized the critical role of yoga and naturopathy in fostering a healthy society. He highlighted that these traditional systems are highly effective for maintaining both physical and mental well-being, urging for increased public awareness and adoption.

Modern Lifestyle Challenges and Health Decline

Dr Bhagavan expressed deep concern over the detrimental impact of contemporary lifestyles on health. He pointed out that disconnection from nature, unhealthy dietary habits, and rising addictions—such as beedi, cigarette smoking, and alcohol consumption—are leading the youth astray. Alarmingly, he noted that even young women are increasingly succumbing to these habits, resulting in a noticeable decline in overall health.

"People in the past maintained robust health by practising Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Jnana Yoga in harmony with nature," he remarked, underscoring the timeless value of these ancient practices.

  • Research Center in Bengaluru: A dedicated research center will be established on 60 acres in Bengaluru to advance studies in yoga and naturopathy.
  • University Emphasis: RGUHS will prioritize the promotion of these systems within its academic and outreach programs.
  • Government Recognition: The central government will be urged to grant greater recognition to yoga and naturopathy, enhancing their status in public health initiatives.

Dr Bhagavan offered guidance to the graduating students, encouraging them to:

  1. Face professional challenges with courage and resilience.
  2. Serve patients with humanity, compassion, and dedication.
  3. Pursue higher studies and engage in research to contribute to the field's growth.

His call to action aims to inspire a new generation of practitioners committed to holistic health and wellness.
