Nagpur Entrepreneur's Startup PsychTools Addresses Student Mental Health Crisis
Born in Nagpur, entrepreneur Rachit Singh is making significant strides in tackling mental health challenges among students through his innovative startup, PsychTools. The company operates across both Germany and India, with its Indian operations currently centered in schools throughout Nagpur, providing structured psychological support systems to bridge critical gaps in youth wellness.
Urgent Need for Accessible School-Based Services
Speaking at the recent Viksit Bharat conclave, Nagpur team lead Dr. Shreyasi Jogi emphasized the pressing necessity for accessible mental health services within educational institutions. She highlighted that many students, particularly during vulnerable developmental stages, often hesitate to share personal concerns with teachers or peers, creating a dangerous void that frequently remains unaddressed.
"PsychTools aims to bridge this divide by offering a safe, confidential, and professional platform directly within the school ecosystem," Dr. Jogi stated, underscoring the startup's mission to normalize mental health support.
Steady Growth and Comprehensive Workshop Offerings
Despite being operational for just over a year with a compact team of seven to eight members in Nagpur, PsychTools is already experiencing steady growth and impactful outreach. The startup has currently partnered with 16 to 17 schools in and around Nagpur, conducting regular workshops that cover essential topics including:
- Emotional awareness and regulation
- Effective stress management techniques
- Breathing exercises for anxiety relief
- Practical time management strategies
- Building motivation and resilience
These sessions ensure every student develops a foundational understanding of mental well-being while actively working to reduce the stigma associated with psychological issues.
Targeted Counseling and Staff Training Programs
During workshops, the PsychTools team identifies approximately 1–2% of students who require more intensive support, providing them with one-on-one counseling and therapy sessions. These individualized interventions address specific concerns such as learning disabilities, behavioral challenges, or conditions on the autism spectrum.
The initiative extends beyond students to include teachers and non-teaching staff through specialized training sessions focused on classroom management, effective communication strategies, and relationship handling techniques.
Affordable Subscription Model and Innovative Tools
Dr. Jogi emphasized that PsychTools operates on an affordable and accessible subscription model, with costs largely borne by partner schools to minimize financial burden on parents. On average, the per-student expense ranges between ₹30 and ₹80 per month, making professional mental health support economically viable for diverse educational institutions.
The startup has also introduced several innovative psychological tools to enhance engagement and effectiveness:
- "Worry Box": A confidential mechanism allowing students to anonymously share concerns and anxieties without fear of judgment.
- "Relationship Toolbox": A structured, activity-based program designed to improve interpersonal understanding and communication across various relationships.
Through these multifaceted approaches, PsychTools is establishing a new paradigm for student mental health support, demonstrating how localized initiatives from Nagpur can create meaningful impact both domestically and internationally.
