HD Kumaraswamy Stresses Yoga for Health at Mandya Event

Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy underscored the significance of yoga in promoting physical and mental well-being during the 12th Yoga Day celebrations at the PET Cricket Stadium in Mandya on Sunday. He stated that good health can be achieved through daily practice of yoga and meditation.

Yoga as an Ancient Indian Heritage

"Yoga is an invaluable contribution of India's ancient culture and heritage. It helps create harmony between the body, mind and soul. In today's fast-paced world, where stress, anxiety and lifestyle-related ailments are on the rise, yoga offers the best path to a healthy and balanced life," Kumaraswamy said.

Global Acceptance of Yoga

Highlighting yoga's global acceptance, the minister noted that Yoga Day is being observed across nearly 2,500 locations worldwide. He urged people to dedicate at least 15 to 20 minutes daily to yoga and meditation to improve physical fitness, mental health and overall quality of life.

Call for Youth to Embrace Traditions

Delivering a special address, Trinetra Mahanta Shivayogi Swami, pontiff of Baby Mutt, said the younger generation must embrace India's rich cultural traditions and values. "Yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a holistic way of life that fosters mental focus, self-discipline and spiritual growth. Regular practice enhances flexibility, boosts immunity and improves cardiovascular, respiratory and digestive health. It also helps reduce stress, depression and anxiety," he said.

Purushothamanandanaatha Swami, general secretary of Sri Adichunchanagiri Education Trust (R), was present at the event.

Dignitaries Participate in Yoga

Deputy Commissioner Kumara, Red Cross Society president and SB Education Trust secretary Meera Shivalingaiah, ZP chief executive officer KR Nandini, additional deputy commissioner BC Shivanandamoorthy and SP Shobharani VJ were also present and performed yoga alongside the attendees.
