Chandigarh Marks 12th International Yoga Day with Grand Event

Chandigarh marked the 12th International Day of Yoga with a state-level celebration at Tiranga Park on Sunday, drawing enthusiastic participation from citizens and officials. Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria attended as the Chief Guest, calling upon the public, especially the youth, to integrate yoga into their daily routines for a healthier and more balanced life.

Yoga as a Way of Life

In his address, Kataria emphasized that yoga transcends mere physical exercise, describing it as a holistic way of life that harmonizes the body, mind, and spirit. He stated, "Yoga is not just about physical exercise but a way of life that helps keep the body healthy, the mind calm, and life balanced." He urged residents to contribute to building a healthy, capable, and prosperous Chandigarh by adopting yoga.

Prime Minister Modi's Virtual Address

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed the nation from the national celebration at Red Road, Kolkata, held under the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing." He highlighted yoga's unifying power, saying, "Yoga connects everyone; Yoga brings everyone together," and noted that it enables people to remain healthy, active, and energetic at every life stage.

Chandigarh Administration's Yoga 365 Initiative

The Administrator highlighted the Chandigarh Administration's "Yoga 365" initiative, aimed at making yoga accessible year-round to all sections of society. He stressed that yoga should be a continuous practice, not limited to a single day. Additionally, efforts to bolster AYUSH-based healthcare services through integrated hospitals, mobile medical units, and wellness programs for all age groups were underscored.

Recognition of Yoga Achievers

During the event, Kataria felicitated young Yogasana achievers from Chandigarh—Anushka Sharma, Abhay Mishra, and Dev—for their outstanding performances at national and international competitions. He also honored representatives from 14 organizations and institutions for their contributions to promoting yoga in the city. The Administrator appreciated the efforts of the AYUSH Department, yoga trainers, voluntary organizations, and educational institutions in fostering a yoga culture.

The event saw the presence of Mayor Saurabh Joshi, Finance Secretary Diprava Lakra, Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar, Sports Secretary Prerna Puri, Secretary Hospitality Swapnil M Naik, Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, along with other senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration and a large number of participants.
