SGPGI Lucknow Conducts Comprehensive Cardiac Lifestyle and CPR Training Workshop
In a significant initiative to enhance public awareness regarding cardiovascular health, the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) organized an extensive Cardiac Lifestyle and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training workshop. This crucial event took place at the Rashtriya Pratiksha Kar Academy located in Gomtinagar, Lucknow, on Tuesday.
Part of a Broader 'Good Health' Programme
The workshop was an integral component of a two-day 'Good Health' programme, specifically designed to empower the community with essential knowledge and skills for maintaining optimal health. This programme underscores the institute's commitment to proactive healthcare education beyond clinical settings.
Expert Insights on Prevention and Preparedness
During the event, distinguished medical professionals shared vital insights. Professor R K Dhiman, the Director of SGPGIMS, emphasized the foundational role of lifestyle in health management. He stated, "A healthy lifestyle is the strongest medicine available. By effectively managing factors such as body weight, blood pressure levels, metabolic syndrome, and physical inactivity, a substantial proportion of heart diseases can be proactively prevented."
Dr. Aditya Kapoor, the Head of the Department of Cardiology at SGPGI, highlighted the critical importance of emergency preparedness. He explained, "Sudden cardiac arrest is an unpredictable event that can affect anyone, at any location. The chances of survival are heavily dependent on the actions taken within the initial three minutes following the incident. It is imperative to train for these decisive moments that truly matter."
Interactive and Hands-On Training Session
The workshop featured an interactive format, providing participants with practical, hands-on training in several key areas:
- Early Recognition of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA): Educating attendees on identifying the warning signs and symptoms promptly.
- CPR Techniques: Detailed instruction on performing effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation to maintain blood flow.
- Use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs): Training on the operation of these life-saving devices, which are crucial for restoring a normal heart rhythm.
Participants received comprehensive, step-by-step demonstrations led by Dr. Aditya Kapoor and Shivdayal, the Nurse In-Charge of the Cath Lab at SGPGIMS. This practical approach ensured that attendees could confidently apply the learned skills in real-world scenarios.
This initiative by SGPGI Lucknow represents a vital step towards building a more health-conscious and prepared community, directly addressing the growing concerns around cardiovascular diseases through education and practical training.
