A series of sudden and aggressive dog attacks has left residents of Mahidpur tehsil in Ujjain district reeling in shock. Over a span of just two days, a single stray canine managed to bite and injure more than 40 individuals before municipal authorities finally captured it. The animal died shortly after being taken into custody.

The frightening incidents unfolded between Tuesday and Wednesday in several busy localities within the municipal limits. Key areas affected included Tension Chauraha and Kirtaniya Bakhal. The attacks were unprovoked, with the dog targeting people who were simply carrying out their daily routines. Victims comprised men, women, and young people, highlighting the random and widespread nature of the threat.
Immediate Medical Response and Treatment
Following the attacks, worried family members and local residents rushed the injured to the Mahidpur Community Health Centre for urgent medical care. Dr. Maheshsingh Rampure, the Medical Officer at the centre, confirmed the treatment protocol. "All those who came to the hospital after being bitten by the dog were given anti-rabies injections," he stated, ensuring that preventive measures against the deadly rabies virus were administered promptly.

The operation to catch the dangerous dog was led by sanitation inspector Umesh Davre under the directives of Chief Municipal Officer Raja Yadav. While the immediate threat was neutralized with the capture and subsequent death of the dog, the incident points to a larger, worrying trend in the region.
Hospital sources revealed a startling surge in dog bite cases. Approximately 80 such cases were reported in the last week alone. Even more concerning is the cumulative figure: more than 230 dog bite cases have been recorded since December.
