Mysuru District Health Officials Directed to Achieve Zero Infant Mortality

In a decisive move to enhance public health outcomes, zilla panchayat CEO S Yukesh Kumar has called for intensified efforts to achieve zero infant mortality in Mysuru district. During the district health society review meeting held on Tuesday, Kumar issued clear directives to health officials, emphasizing the need for focused action plans and rigorous implementation.

Current Health Statistics Highlight Progress and Challenges

Speaking at the meeting, Kumar presented key health data for the district. Mysuru reported nine maternal deaths in the calendar year 2025, covering January to December. While the state's maternal mortality ratio stands at 69, the district maintained a significantly lower rate of 32.2, reflecting substantial improvements in maternal healthcare services.

However, with regard to infant mortality, 311 cases were reported by the end of 2025. Despite this figure, the district's infant mortality rate of 11.1 remains well below the state average of 19, indicating relative success but underscoring the need for further reduction.

Preventive Care and Program Implementation Emphasized

Emphasizing the critical importance of preventive care, Yukesh Kumar highlighted the crucial role of RBSK (Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram) medical teams. These teams are tasked with identifying malnourished children and ensuring their timely admission to Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres for proper care and recovery.

The CEO also appreciated 123 health centres across taluks such as Mysuru, Nanjangud, and T Narasipura for securing national-level certification under the Kayakalpa programme. This recognition is awarded for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and quality healthcare, showcasing the district's commitment to excellence in health infrastructure.

Expansion of Healthcare Schemes and Accountability Measures

In line with government guidelines, Kumar directed officials to expand the Gruha Arogya home healthcare scheme to urban areas, aiming to make healthcare more accessible. Stressing accountability, he instructed strict monitoring of high-risk pregnancies, promotion of institutional deliveries to ensure safety, and proper updating of beneficiary data on portals like Seva Sindhu for efficient service delivery.

He called for achieving 100% vaccination coverage to eliminate measles-rubella, highlighting the importance of immunization in preventing childhood diseases. Additionally, Kumar urged coordinated action to curb social issues such as child marriage and illegal foetal gender detection, which impact maternal and child health outcomes.

Financial Year-End Mandates for Health Programmes

As the financial year 2025-26 draws to a close, Kumar mandated that all national health programmes must achieve full physical and financial progress. This requires effective planning and rigorous follow-up to ensure that resources are utilized optimally and health targets are met, reinforcing the district's dedication to improving public health standards.
