A video purportedly showing Uttarakhand MLA Qazi Nizamuddin carrying an unconscious patient from Manglaur Community Health Centre (CHC) to his private vehicle went viral on Thursday, sparking allegations of negligence and inadequate medical care at the government facility.
Patient's Condition and Family Allegations
According to locals, the 45-year-old patient, Dilshad, had been undergoing treatment for tuberculosis since May 9. His condition deteriorated at home on Wednesday night, following which his wife brought him to the CHC on Thursday morning and requested hospital staff to admit him for urgent treatment. The family alleged that the patient was neither admitted nor provided adequate medical attention.
MLA's Intervention and Claims
The Manglaur MLA said the patient remained unattended and lying unconscious on the hospital floor for over four hours without proper treatment. He alleged that despite requests, hospital administration failed to arrange either a stretcher or an ambulance. The MLA personally carried the patient to his vehicle to seek immediate medical care elsewhere.
Hospital's Response
Gambhir Singh Taaliyan, CHC in-charge, defended the facility, stating, “Our CHC faces one of the highest patient loads in the district, with over 80 OPD cases daily, and all patients are provided proper treatment. The patient in question lay down on the floor after noticing the MLA. Facts related to the incident are being misrepresented.”
The incident has raised serious questions about the state of healthcare in the region, with the local administration promising an inquiry into the matter.
