Staggering Discovery of Expired Dates Worth ₹50 Lakh

During inspections at a wholesale warehouse, authorities made a shocking discovery: nearly 10,000 kilograms of expired dates, with an estimated market value of approximately ₹50 lakh. The massive stockpile had allegedly been stored with the intention of reintroducing it into the supply chain. Officials suspect that the spoiled dates were being prepared for repackaging with fresh-looking labels and shiny stickers to deceive consumers into believing they were newly imported products.

The seized consignment has been sent for comprehensive laboratory testing to confirm the violations. Authorities have stated unequivocally that if the test reports confirm adulteration or expiration, strict legal action will be initiated against those responsible.

Adulterated Khoya and Supari Destroyed on Site

The raids yielded further concerning findings at another location, where inspectors encountered about 675 kilograms of adulterated khoya. Khoya is a critical ingredient used extensively in preparing traditional Indian sweets, especially during festivals. Recognizing the immediate health risk, officials destroyed the entire batch on the spot to prevent any possibility of it reaching consumers.

In addition, the operation led to the recovery of adulterated supari worth over ₹2 lakh, which was also disposed of immediately. These decisive actions underscore the authorities' zero-tolerance approach toward food safety violations.

The timing of these discoveries is particularly alarming. With Ramadan currently underway and Holi shopping beginning, demand for food items spikes significantly.
