The city of Kanpur has clinched the number one position in a special statewide drive for the Ayushman Bharat health scheme, demonstrating remarkable efficiency in enrolling beneficiaries. The campaign, which ran from November 25, saw Kanpur emerge as the undisputed leader by issuing a total of 3,589 Ayushman Bharat health cards to eligible residents.

This ranking highlights a concentrated effort across Uttar Pradesh to expand the reach of the government's flagship health insurance scheme.
Grassroots Mobilization and Camp Strategy
The success in Kanpur was not accidental but the result of a meticulously planned field operation. To ensure maximum coverage, the health department organized 67 camps daily across the district. This effort was strategically split, with 22 camps in rural areas and 45 camps in urban zones, ensuring that the campaign reached every corner of the district.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. SP Yadav, explained the on-ground strategy. He stated that health department teams were in continuous action, working directly in communities to identify and register eligible individuals. A key feature of the campaign was the on-the-spot generation of Ayushman cards, eliminating delays and providing immediate proof of coverage to beneficiaries. This proactive approach yielded 3,589 cards within just the first five days of the campaign.
Targets and Administrative Push
To maintain momentum and ensure quantifiable outcomes, specific targets were set for frontline health workers. In urban areas, each ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) was directed to facilitate the creation of a minimum of five Ayushman cards per day. This target-driven approach helped in systematically covering the urban population.
District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh underscored the campaign's core mission. He emphasized that the objective of the Ayushman card special campaign was unequivocal: to ensure that no eligible person is deprived of the benefits of the scheme. The top-ranking achievement of Kanpur district reflects a successful administrative push towards this goal of universal health coverage.
The campaign's results showcase a significant stride in public health inclusion in Uttar Pradesh. By bringing services to the people's doorstep and simplifying the enrollment process, the initiative has successfully connected thousands of families to a vital financial safety net for healthcare, with Kanpur leading the charge.
