Kanpur DM Stresses Need for Robust Surveillance to Eradicate Measles and Rubella

District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh declared on Tuesday that eliminating measles and rubella remains a critical national objective. He insisted that surveillance systems require significant strengthening at all levels to reach this goal.

Inter-Departmental Meeting Reviews Progress

Singh chaired an inter-departmental coordination committee meeting at the new auditorium in Sarsaiya Ghat, Kanpur. The session focused on reviewing the ongoing measles and rubella elimination program. The DM issued clear instructions during the gathering.

He mandated the compulsory reporting of every measles and rubella case. Private medical practitioners received a direct appeal to collaborate by sharing information about cases from their areas with the health department.

Multi-Pronged Strategy for Public Health

The meeting outlined a comprehensive strategy. Officials placed strong emphasis on raising public awareness about these diseases. Specific departments received targeted assignments.

The Bal Vikas Sewa department must identify children falling into the SAM (Severe Acute Malnutrition) and MAM (Moderate Acute Malnutrition) categories. This step aims to protect vulnerable groups.

Simultaneously, the minority welfare department received instructions to enhance communication on health matters. The department will organize monthly meetings with religious leaders to promote routine vaccination and discuss health issues.

This coordinated effort underscores Kanpur's commitment to a healthier future, free from preventable diseases like measles and rubella.
