Jaundice Outbreak in Patiala: 8 New Cases, Total Reaches 27
Eight additional cases of jaundice were reported from Dogra Mohalla near Sirhindi Gate in Patiala on Friday, raising the total number of affected individuals to 27. Among these, five patients have been hospitalized, while the rest are receiving treatment at home under medical supervision.
Minister Visits Affected Area
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh visited Dogra Mohalla on Friday to assess the situation and engage with residents. He was accompanied by local MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli, Mayor Kundan Gogia, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kushaldeep Hans, and senior officials from the Health Department and Municipal Corporation.
Dr. Balbir Singh assured that the health department is closely monitoring all affected patients and that the situation is under control. He also inspected the medical camp set up in the locality to provide immediate care.
Preventive Measures Underway
ASHA workers and ANM teams are conducting door-to-door surveys in the area. Chlorine tablets and ORS packets have been distributed among residents to curb the spread of the disease. The minister urged residents to immediately report any foul smell, discoloration, or other abnormalities in drinking water to the Health Department or local administration for timely testing and corrective action.
Mayor's Appeal
Mayor Kundan Gogia appealed to residents to avoid illegal water connections and booster pumps, as these practices can compromise the water supply system and lead to contamination.

CMO Kushaldeep Hans stated, We are continuously monitoring the affected area by screening all residents and ensuring timely medical assistance to those in need.
