Health and municipal authorities in Indore have launched a robust, multi-faceted campaign to tackle a severe waterborne crisis in the Bhagirathpura area. The initiative, named 'Abhiyan Swasthyavardhan', combines intensive medical outreach with critical infrastructure repairs to control the outbreak and prevent future contamination.
Massive Medical Mobilization Reaches Thousands
In a significant push on Sunday, the administration deployed 50 specialized medical teams to the affected locality. These teams reached out to approximately 3,700 residents, providing essential Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and zinc kits. A key focus of the screenings was on vulnerable groups, with specialized health checks conducted for women and children.
Dr. Madhav Hasani, the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), provided a detailed patient update. "Since the outbreak began, 427 persons required hospitalisation. Of these, 385 have been successfully discharged," he stated. The official noted that 42 patients remain under medical care, with 13 of them in intensive care units.
To ensure continuous monitoring, health authorities are distributing health cards to residents to track vital health indices. Simultaneously, ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers are conducting door-to-door awareness sessions to educate and calm the public.
Infrastructure Overhaul to Secure Water Supply
Parallel to the medical response, a major engineering effort is underway to fix the root cause of the crisis. Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) Commissioner, Kshitij Singhal, personally inspected Zone 3 to address the drainage issues leading to water contamination.
At Shivaji Nagar in Ward 56, Commissioner Singhal oversaw the installation of new drainage lines. He issued strict instructions that water and sewage pipes must be laid with clear separation and high-quality standards to prevent any future seepage and cross-contamination.
In Bhagirathpura, the commissioner set a strict deadline, giving an ultimatum to officials to chlorinate every government-operated borewell by the end of the day. To further mitigate risks, Singhal ordered the immediate clearance of silt from drainage channels and intensified canal-cleaning operations led by the malaria control department.
Public Advisory and Continuous Monitoring
The administration has mandated continuous public service announcements (PSAs) on water safety protocols. All residents are strongly advised to boil and filter their water before consumption as engineering teams work round-the-clock to secure the water supply lines.
This combined strategy of immediate medical relief, public communication, and permanent infrastructure correction underscores a comprehensive approach to public health management. The success of 'Abhiyan Swasthyavardhan' hinges on the sustained execution of both its medical and civic components to restore safety and public confidence in Indore's water system.
