Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil announced that Himachal Pradesh is making significant progress in eliminating tuberculosis (TB) through a combination of short-term and long-term strategic interventions. He made these remarks while virtually addressing a meeting of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, chaired by Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda in New Delhi, to review the progress of states and Union Territories toward achieving a TB-free India.
Key Achievements in TB Control
Shandil informed the meeting that Himachal has become one of the leading states in several key TB control indicators. The state has achieved over 75% coverage in screening vulnerable populations living in high-risk villages and wards. In addition to extensive screening, the state has made notable progress in conducting X-ray examinations, NAAT testing, and providing comprehensive care and support to TB patients.
Role of Healthcare Workers and Community
The minister attributed the success of the TB elimination campaign to the dedicated efforts of ASHA workers, healthcare personnel, Ni-kshay Mitras, and active community participation. He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to a TB-free Himachal Pradesh and said steps are being taken to expand the TB diagnostic network and strengthen healthcare infrastructure.
Future Plans
Shandil emphasized that the state will continue to focus on early detection, effective treatment, and community engagement to achieve the national goal. The government is also working on enhancing the capacity of healthcare facilities and ensuring the availability of modern diagnostic tools in remote areas.
