The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has launched a major review of the city's water supply network, ordering an urgent audit of pipelines, reservoirs, and water ATMs. This decisive action comes in response to complaints from residents in parts of the city who reported falling ill after allegedly consuming contaminated water.
High-Level Meeting Triggers Swift Action
The move was initiated during a high-level review meeting held on Friday, January 10, 2026, chaired by GNIDA Chief Executive Officer Ravi Kumar N G. Issuing a stern warning, the CEO stated that negligence in ensuring essential public services would not be tolerated. The meeting extensively covered issues related to public health, sanitation, and core infrastructure across Greater Noida.
A dedicated technical committee has been formed, comprising officials from the Water Department. This committee has been given a clear mandate: to identify leakages and corrosion in the pipeline network and to check the purity of drinking water supplied to various sectors. Water samples will be collected from multiple locations for testing, and the panel has been directed to submit a detailed report at the earliest.
Illness Complaints and External Precedent Prompt Review
The review was prompted by reports from residents of Delta 1 in Noida, who experienced symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, and stomach pain, which they attributed to contaminated water. While GNIDA has maintained that no evidence of contamination was found in Delta 1's water supply, the authority decided to proceed with a comprehensive check.
Officials revealed that the decision was also influenced by the recent tragic incident in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where several deaths were reported after allegedly consuming contaminated water. This external event underscored the critical need for proactive measures.
Ganga Water Project and Infrastructure Overhaul
During the same meeting, CEO Ravi Kumar NG reviewed the progress of the long-awaited 80 cusecs Ganga water project. He directed officials to ensure its completion by January of this year. This project, which aims to supply treated Ganga water to all sectors and villages of Greater Noida, has faced delays due to land acquisition and legal hurdles but is now reportedly nearing completion.
Infrastructure and sanitation were also high on the agenda. A special team has been constituted to improve road infrastructure. This team has already inspected the entire stretch of Master Plan Road 3 and is expected to submit a detailed action plan within 15 days.
Expressing dissatisfaction over delays in pond construction, the CEO issued a final warning to contractors and officials to expedite the work. To modernise sanitation services, Kumar also directed the purchase of mechanised cleaning machines and medium-sized equipment for drain maintenance.
