Govt Model High School, Sector 50-B, Chandigarh, has been honoured with a national-level consolation prize under the Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) School Challenge: Towards a Tobacco-Free Generation. This initiative is spearheaded by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The award was presented to Principal Indu Babbar and ToFEI Nodal Officer Manisha at a felicitation ceremony held in New Delhi. The recognition acknowledges the school's outstanding efforts in raising awareness against tobacco use and promoting a healthier, safer, and tobacco-free future for its students.
Under the leadership of Principal Indu Babbar, the school has consistently organized awareness campaigns, educational activities, and community outreach programmes. These initiatives aim to encourage students to adopt healthy lifestyles and become responsible citizens. Speaking on the occasion, Babbar credited the achievement to the collective efforts of teachers, staff, students, parents, School Management Committee members, and the entire school community.
The ToFEI School Challenge is a nationwide programme that encourages educational institutions to adopt and promote tobacco-free practices. By participating, schools contribute to the broader goal of creating a tobacco-free generation in India.
GMHS-50's recognition serves as an inspiration for other schools in the region to intensify their anti-tobacco efforts and foster a culture of health and well-being among students.
