MG Aristotle, the councillor representing Kaloor South, emphasized the severity of the situation. "The smell has worsened over the past few days, causing considerable difficulty for hundreds of visitors. Corporation officials have explicitly demanded urgent steps to address this problem," he stated, highlighting the growing public concern.
Root Cause Identified: Eatery Waste Clogging Pipes
GCDA officials have traced the primary cause of the foul odor to improper waste disposal practices by approximately thirty eateries functioning within the stadium complex. These establishments have been discharging oil and food waste along with their wastewater, leading to severe clogging in the effluent pipes. This blockage disrupts the normal treatment process, resulting in the release of unpleasant smells into the surrounding environment.
In response, GCDA has initiated cleaning operations to clear the obstructed pipes. "Cleaning work has already begun and is expected to be completed within the next two days," confirmed an official from the authority, assuring prompt action to mitigate the issue.
