A portion of the fibre false ceiling in the emergency ward of SPM Civil Hospital in Lucknow collapsed on Tuesday while fire safety repair work was underway, sparking panic among patients and medical staff.

Incident During Fire Safety Repairs

According to hospital officials, the collapse occurred while a contractor was inspecting and repairing fire safety equipment in the ward. The sudden fall of the ceiling material created a tense atmosphere, but no casualties were reported.

Immediate Response and Patient Safety

At the time of the incident, nine patients were admitted in the emergency ward. They were promptly shifted to other wards, and the affected area was completely vacated to ensure safety. A team from the Public Works Department (PWD) later inspected the remaining ceiling structure to assess its stability.

Hospital Administration's Statement

Medical Superintendent Dr. Devesh Chandra Pandey confirmed that no one was injured in the incident. He stated that an inquiry has been ordered to investigate the matter. "We will seek explanations from the agency responsible for the repair work as well as from the concerned officials," Dr. Pandey added.

The hospital administration is taking necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the safety of patients and staff.
