A devastating fire triggered by a gas cylinder leak in Dharwad has left six individuals with burn injuries, prompting a visit from state ministers to the hospital. The incident underscores a pressing need for heightened public awareness regarding LPG safety measures in households.
Ministerial Visit and Details of the Incident
On Monday, Labour and District Minister Santosh Lad and MLA NH Konaraddi visited the KMC-RI Hospital in Hubballi to check on the condition of the injured victims. Speaking to reporters, Minister Lad provided a detailed account of the unfortunate event. He explained that the blast occurred in a small house that lacked proper ventilation. Overnight, gas had leaked and filled the entire confined space. In the morning, when the gas was switched on, it led to a sudden explosion.
Condition of the Victims and Immediate Response
The minister revealed that among the six injured, a 27-year-old woman named Afreen suffered the most severe injuries, with approximately 80% burns. The remaining five victims sustained burns ranging from 20% to 30%. Lad confirmed that all five are currently in stable condition and receiving necessary medical care. The visit was also attended by Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu and other officials, highlighting the administration's attention to the case.
A Call for Public Vigilance and Safety Precautions
Minister Santosh Lad used the opportunity to issue a crucial public safety advisory. He stressed that kitchens must have adequate ventilation to prevent gas accumulation. He urged the public to be extremely vigilant and to check for gas leaks every morning as a routine precaution. "If the cylinder starts leaking, as soon as one smells it, immediate precautions should be taken to prevent a blast," Lad emphasized. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of LPG if basic safety protocols are neglected.
